New Jersey and Homelessness in the Pandemic
New Jersey rolled out a new program in July to try to prevent homelessness. The program, COVID-19 Emergency Rental Assistance Program (CVERAP), will provide temporary rental assistance to low- and moderate-income households that have had a substantial reduction in income or became unemployed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This program is being rolled out from the Department of Community Affairs and applicants may be eligible for a maximum of up to six months of emergency rental assistance…
The second program in New Jersey is the CV-Rapid-Rehousing Initiative (CV-RRHI). This initiative will provide up to 12 months of temporary rental assistance and stabilization services to assist homeless unsheltered and sheltered individuals and families…New Jersey currently has a moratorium on evictions of homeowners amid foreclosure proceedings, or evictions of rental tenants for two months after the Governor declares the emergency over

"All children have equal opportunities to succeed" – FALSE
Many people make the argument that even if a child is born into poverty, that child has the same opportunities in school as more wealthy children, and thus have at least some equal opportunity to succeed later in life. Unfortunately, the research demonstrates that the reality of the situation is quite the opposite.
22% of children who have lived in poverty do not graduate from high school, compared to 6% of children who have never lived in poverty, and shockingly 32% of children who spent more than half of their childhood in poverty do not graduate – see newsletter for full article.
