Great Plains Homeless Shelter Celebrates 30 Years

The Great Plains Improvement Foundation C. Carter Crane Emergency Homeless Shelter in Lawton recently celebrated 30 years of providing and homelike environment coupled with a strong supportive case-management to help clients increase income and gain housing – full story.

Variety of Training Provided at OKACAA Conference

More than 160 persons registered for the OKACAA Annual Conference held Sept. 9-11 in Oklahoma City. Training was provided for Head Start, Housing/Weatherization, Community Liaison, and Management staff - photos.

OWHAC Accepting Application for Scholarship

The Oklahoma Weatherization and Housing Advisory Council is accepting applications until Jan. 15, 2016 for the $1,000 Ted Allen/David Walker Scholarship. Eligibility Requirements

  1. Applicants are limited to high school seniors with a minimum grade point average of 3.0.
  2. Applicants must be a direct relative (2nd degree) of an employee of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), Oklahoma Department of Commerce (ODOC), Oklahoma Housing Finance Agency (OHFA), or a Community Action Agency (CAA).
  3. Applicants must be planning to attend an accredited four-year college/university or an accredited junior college with plans to complete a degree.

A $1,000 scholarship will be awarded each year to one successful applicant based on a 500-word essay entitled: “The Importance of affordable housing for the low income.” Applicants will be judged on punctuation, grammar, style and content – further information including Guidelines and Application Form.

OKACAA Member News Briefs

Two Little Dixie Community Action Agency staff members received major awards at the OKACAA Annual Conference. Johnny Moffitt, Associate Director, was presented the Guy Davis Leadership Award and Sharon Pennell, Fiscal Officer, was presented the Fred Tucker Memorial Award during the awards banquet.

"Must Have" Financial Info for CAA Boards and CEOs is a webinar presented by Kay Sohl for the Community Action Partnership. It was part of series of Virtual CAP news feeds that provides resources which can be used to support agency efforts in relation to risk mitigation and meeting the CSBG Organizational Standards – Risk Mitigation Blog.
