CAAP Welcomes Four New CEOs To PA Community Action!

Recently, four Pennsylvania Community Action Agencies saw a change in their most top-ranking leadership position. CAAP is excited to welcome Erin Lukoss from the Bucks County Opportunity Council, James Plankenhor from STEP, Inc. - Lycoming and Clinton Counties, Dan Jurman from Community Action Program of Lancaster County, and Dave Greene from Northern Tier Community Action. Armstrong Co. Community Action Agency Receives $8M for Head Start

The Department of Health and Human Services, as required by Congress, established the Designation Renewal System (DRS) to determine whether Head Start and Early Head Start agencies deliver high-quality and comprehensive services to the families they serve. In July, Armstrong County Community Action Agency was notified that they received the DRS Head Start competitive grant. It is a five year grant that will amount to approximately $8,000,000 over the next five years…In addition; Armstrong County CAA applied for a grant with Wal-Mart for a refrigerated truck and was notified on July 13 that they received a $75,000 grant for the purchase.…

VirtualCAP is featuring a new publication called RoundUP.  RoundUP provides value-added content while helping to build an additional source of support for Virtual CAP. Members receive VirtualCAP RoundUP, which expands upon the resources found on VirtualCAP.  Each issue of VirtualCAP RoundUP will include a Focus Topic, Successful Funding Initiatives, Innovative CAA Program Initiatives, Community Action in the News, and Other Related Highlights – more info.

Raise the Wage PA

Raise the Wage PA is a statewide coalition of community, labor, faith-based, and other organizations fighting for an increase in the PA minimum wage.  The coalition is actively advocating for a minimum wage increase to $10.10/hr. On July 2, coalition members held a rally in Harrisburg to demand a fair budget and to keep their minimum wage agenda in the minds of state legislatures. Recently, and in collaboration with Raise the Wage coalition, The National Women's Law Center prepared a fact sheet titled, Fair Pay for Pennsylvania Women Requires a Fair Minimum Wage...
