CEO Corner

Message from Karla Digirolamo, NYSCAA CEO – It's summer conference season again; earlier this month I was on the road for the CAPLAW conference and just this past week we gathered in Oswego for NYSCAA and NYSWDA's Annual Professional Development Conference.  In times of shrinking budgets and rising expenses we know it's a big decision to send staff and/or attend conferences at the state and national level.  The rewards can be great though, and we all benefit by taking time to connect with our colleagues, learn about the latest trends and research, better understand regulations and monitoring processes and open our minds to new ideas.  We get re-energized at these events, returning to work fresh and ready to take on the challenges ahead…

The New York State CSBG (Community Services Block Grant) Plan describes how New York plans to spend the CSBG funds and how the State will meet federal CSBG program requirements. On June 3, 2015, NYSCAA and several Community Action Agencies were represented at the Public Hearing where oral testimony was heard.

The public comment period continues to be open for submission of written comments on the draft CSBG Application and Plan for Fiscal years 2016 & 2017 – comments accepted through COB August 3, 2015.

Join Us! NYS Poverty Simulation Network
In an effort to connect all of the organizations offering Poverty Simulation experiences in New York State, NYSCAA will host the first NYS Poverty Simulation Network conference call on Wednesday, June 24 from 10 AM - 11 AM. An initial survey indicates that the network would be used mainly to provide connections to colleagues who would partner to facilitate or host simulations - both locally in other parts of the state. In addition, there is interest in developing the "next steps" for after a simulation has occurred and in learning how to leverage resources (human and financial). The network will communicate regularly via e-mail, occasionally via conference call and at in person meetings once or twice a year…

NYSCAA Conferences
The RPIC Region II Finance, Human Resources and Leadership Conference will be held September 17 & 18, 2015 in Binghamton, NY. Pulitzer Prize winning American investigative journalist and economist David Cay Johnston will deliver a keynote.
