Sen. Zorn, MCA volunteers earn awards

State Sen. Dale Zorn of Monroe and Lenawee counties has been named 2015 Legislator of the Year by Michigan Community Action for his efforts to pass HB 4544 last year, which created a funding mechanism for weatherization. The new law sets aside a percentage of the state's federal Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program allocation to be used for low-income home weatherization…Also receiving awards were several Community Action volunteers from throughout the state…

Need for caregivers increases

The belief that Michigan's growing population of senior citizens deserves to age with dignity is the driving force behind the Silver Key Coalition's efforts to ensure access to in-home services for older adults. Michigan Community Action is a proud member of the coalition, which aims to make Michigan a "no-wait state" for senior services. Fortunately, Gov. Snyder and the Michigan Legislature made a strong commitment to our state's senior population by appropriating $5 million for fiscal 2015 toward no-wait programs…
